FEATHERSTON SCHOOL COM MITTEE MEETING.
A meeting of the Featherston School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Monday evening, September 3rd at 8 p.m. Present—Messrs J. G. Oox (Chairman), H. Bunny, J. D. Oaklv, and A, Campbell. , The minutes ofprevious meeting held on August 24th wag read and confirmed. Correspondence Miss Medley, asking a week's leave of absence owing to ill health. From Education Board informing the Committee that Mr J, R, Blair and the Rev. J, Patterson fed heoii appointed a> Committee to enquire into the questions at issue between • Mr Tuckey and this Committee. From Education Board enclosing a copy of letter sent by Mr Tuckey to the Board, ' The following letter from. Mr H. E. Tuckey to Mr Cox re action of the Committee was then read : . The Mool, August 28,1888,; Deab Mr 'Oox,—l waited yeaterday expecting to hear from yoa of the proceedings of the Committee ;on Friday night. lam sorry now that I let myself be bounced by Mr Bunny into leaving the room. It would have been better for the sohflol and for all of us if he had walked out as he threatened to do and never came baok again, As regards the secretary I cannot lot matters rest as thev are now. Mr Oampbell has stated in writing to the committee that I had a coined him falsely of certain things, either he must prove that wftrd falsely, or he must withdraw it_and apologise, jf he refnses to do either I shall haye, as Mr Gladstone says, three courses open to meXafc. I may refer lie matter to the inspector of the Bank \of Australasia, 2nd. I may slate the case to the Education Board. 3rd. I may take a legal opinion whether an aotion does not lie against Mr Campbell for concealing what took place at a meeting of the committee on or about the 13th July. I am sorry to have been brought into this state of hostility with your relative, it has not been in any way my doing, but as low> aa the Committee submit to the guidance of Mr Bunny I must take the best advice I can.

A copy of a letter sent by Mr Tuckey to the Education Board was laid before the meeting.—The Secretary stated there were statements therein without foundation, and that he would write to the Chairman on the subject at linearly date. The Chairman reported that the head teacher had nol yet supplied him with a specimen of this home work given to the children.
Resolved—That Bible reading be allowed out of school hours for another thtee months, open to any clergyman, but before further application bo made the committee would like a report from the head master as to how many clergymen had availed themselves of it, and how many children attended each class.
Accounts to the amount of £3 gs 3d were passed fqr pftym ent, and the meeting terminated.
