A lenghty debate ensued, the amendment being ultimately negatived by 16 to U, and the second reading carried by the-Speaker's casting vote, • Each of the following Bills were read • ft second time-Inspection of Michinery Extension,. Public Works Act Amendment, Harbor Act Amendment, Patent Act Amendment, West Coast Peace Preservation, Property Assessment Act Amendment, Town District A'ot Amendment, Special Powers aud Contracts, • Adulteration Prevention Amendment, Middle Island Halfcaste grants, and South Island NativoEeserves.

Brown to bring applications;received up to dato in on equal terms with those made before the 30th June wafe lost, and the Bill was reported as'amended, and read a third titqbaiid passed. The Land Transfer. Act Amendment Bill was read a' third time and passed, The Hon.
