A ONCE SPLENDID NOW BAD ROAD.

' Sir,—There is a piece of road, extending from-the Waiugawa Bridge to the entrance of Kuripuni, upon .., the bad state of which I should liko to. see drawn the attention of the authorities It used to be the best formed portion of the road from Wellington, S , Napier. Nothing more could meet the eyes of the traveller than when entering, in the early days of Spring, the two clusters of wattle / trees, all in bloom spreading a fragrant 'f odour from their lovely yellow flowers, to gaze upon the new scenery spread before his astonished eyes. No longer does he behold there, those dreary, stony plains, overgrown with unsightly shrubs, but ho findsthere on both sides of the road, green paddocks, strewn over as with so many balls of snow, hundreds of splendid ewes with their lovely lambs, a few very nice willows, arespread along the plantation, and the whole scenery is crowned by the snowcovered summits of the Tararua ranges. Instead of being able to admire these lovely sceneries, tlio traveller has now to avoid coming to grief; to watch most carefully the numerous pools of water hiding dangerous deep holes, spread all over the road. I hope,'sir, that the city fathers will not permit any longer to see thus spoiled the ■prettiest avonuo leading to their celebrated borough. . . I am, (fee, ■ Driver.
