WAIRARAPA EAST COUNTY COUNCIL.

A meeting of the committee appointed to'draw ilp a report on the subject of crown lands in this county was held lit the county offices on Saturday. It was resolved after discussion,, to draw the attention of the Government to this important question, and recommend that a sum of money be placed on the estimates with a view to opening up by; .the ■ construction of roads further portions of Mangaone, Malum Mangithao, 1 .Pnhiatua, ' and Pukotoi blocks.. The .following is a summary of the works included : in this recommendltion:—The construction of the Mangaone Valley road. 'Tawataia "Valley road. Pahiatua road extension" to Tiraumea stream. The road through block 15, Mangahao, and block 2 Mangaone to join the Makakalii and Hawera roads. Dreyer's Rock road extension to Perry's clearing,' and Wangaehu Yalley extension to meet . Dreyer's Rock .Road. A general recommendation to be made that the Pukotoi block should be Opened for settlement without delay.! The attention, of the Government to be called to previous recommendations for sums of money.to be set apart for bridges on the Pahiatim' road and construction of the I MauriCeville aoutH extension to meet

the Mauriceville west road. Attention to be called to the large extent of ■ country lying between the main Opaki-. Miinawatu road and the Tavarua fenge, and it was resolved to bring this also before the notice of the Government. ■',•..' .' The Works Committee subsequently held a meeting to open tenders for formation and bridge building on the Masterton-Bideford main road. The following tenders were considered.:—' Contract • No. 2, 73 chains formation i and culverts—McCarthy k Dowling, £172 15s 4d (accepted); P. Mad'sen,. i £240; Parker and Co., £2Bl Is ;■■ Hal- ■ berg and Larson, £334.. Taueru Bridge—Only one tender for this havieg been opened, it was resolved to advertise for fresh tenders to be sent in by Saturday, the Ist proximo.
