WELLINGTON MEAT EXPORT COMPANY.
, The buildings which! have been iii course of erection for some time past near the Railway Reserve, are now so near completion that yesterday morning the Company .were able to commence operations. The buildings are not yet out of the contractors hands; some plastering and painting which are being proceeded with have yet to be be completed j but the whole are roofed ; ip,. heavy machinery all firmly bedded; and yesterday morning steam • was got up, not for the purpose of any work. The machinery worked well from the start a slight accident to'one; of the little hean)B,of the pump being remedied in a few minutes. ; The pipes hive been near|y all thickly covered with felt,. The air-pumps, which were made by "HasljimJ of Derby, are on a different principle to any at present,-in''use-in any 6f the colonies, a great economisingof the power of the engine being their loading characteristic. We may here hero:mention that HaslaraV patent though a very recont one, has already bcenjlargely availed of by American companies in preference to others. When the machinery had been started a few minutes, white hoar frost was : ..■visjhjei'on the outside ,and ; out of 'the cbld-air box snow and ice were both taken. The Company now will freeze .300 ahoep per day till tho: Dorio sails, by which steamer'they will.shipfor the market 6000 sheop. The successful starting of operations is a matter on which the Directors may be .cordially congratulated, and wo can but wish ;the Company every success in their spirited "enterprise.— N.Z. Times,
