Auckland, Friday. ■ Afire at'Belchcr's store; Uppei-'Queen-stl;eet' took place at one this morning. •The fire was discovered by, Lumsden, operator at the telegraph department, on his .way ■ hdtneward'.;; He saw the. glare at the store, and ran to the spot. ,He,saw Ixo one about, but noticed one half .of .the front door, next Upper Q_ueen : streefc, wide open. The interior was one mass of" flame. Belcher had l&ised the store to Robertson and Maxwell for 21' years 1 <m the Ist June/ and the loss falls most heartily upon the latter-gentlemen. Belcher had the buildings insured for L2OO in the National, Robertson had them also insured foi f L6OO in the same Company, owing to. theiu having lease. Thoy had also a policy jjf LSOO on tho stock, and LSOO on plant, Thero was about; L2QO worth of maize in the stores at the time,of the fire, besides a quantity of ; ..country produce. They had recently purchased a gas engine at a cost of L3OO, had also a chaff-cutter ar.d oat and maize-crushing machines, and sawing plant for firewood. A dray was destroyed, and .two horses in the stables, valued at LSO, were burnt to death, efforts to release them being fruitless. ' Donelly, adjoining, was insured for L 175 in the .South British,. The house was badly charred,'and the furniture and goods were greatly knscked about in. removal, Mrs Bibles' residenco adjoining sustained considerable damage, The furniture was also damaged by the removal. It was insured in the New Zealand for L2OO. Robertson's k Maxwell's loss will be total; nothing saved; building and contents entirely destroyed. The building was an extensive one of corrugated iron, The loss and damago to property adjacent is estimated at L2OOO. Robertson says he locked up the stores himself at 7 o'clock, everything being perfectly secure, and js unable to throw any light upon the origin of the fire',..

' ' ■ Wanganui, August 16. Two of the Oxford's immigrants who came upin the Huia on .Sunday: have typhoid fiver, arid were sent to the Hospital to-night. Their .names are Robert Pi.tton. and Mary O'Sullivan. The man's case is slight, but the woman's is of a more serious nature.
