There can be 110 more certain means of advancing the prosperity of any district than by improving its internal communication, and there can bo no greater proof of a want of civilisation than the absence of good roads. How much behind all the other parts of this end of the island is this splendid dis trict. Probably now we shall be able to communicate with Masterton again by coach in a few more weeks; at all events, let us hope such will be tho case—thanks for approaching spring, Some time ago we were to have a wharf at Castlepoint. Littlo as that might be, it was.considered we would get something for our benefit; but even this has again dropped into oblivion, Nothing has been heard of it for a long time pust.
