LONDON, July 25. A fearful calamity, involving immense loss of life, occurred at Baltimore, a city of the United States situated on the river Patapaco. A number of Roman Catholic pleasure seekers were picnicing on the banks of tjie river, when a large number of them congregated On a small jetty which projects into the stream, Without the slightest warning, the structure gave way and the crowd was precipitated into the; river. A scene of terrible confusion ensued, some few were able to reach the shore, but the groat majority were swept awav by the ourrent. It is estimated that 100 'persons, chiefly women and children, were drowned.
