A NOVEL USE FOR COTTON REELS.
• ' Empty cotton reels are not. usually looked upon as articles of utility or nevertheless a collection' of can be metamorphosed by any ingenious girl into both, Three or four dozen reels of an equal size, then, we will start with. They must be one colour, black or white, it does not matter so long as uniformity is maintained! and we will construct a miniature bookcase capable of containing a modest library. Four thin iron rods or strong round sticks will do as well, about, 18or/20 inches in length; on' each side of, these'thread 8 reels., Now, in a smooth piece of wood, deal orpine, bore i holes, two at each end; thread the stick or iron through through, and shelf number one is formed; more reels aro added according to material. In ordor that tho reels shall not tumblo off, a small knot is fixed at the end of each stick, forming feet for tho bookcase as well. Now, as our home-made furniture looks rather rough, we must use our own decorating faculties, so with a black paint we coat the reels and shelves, allow it to dry thoroughly jind should it be necessary apply ii second time, when a nice glossy' black rewards our labour. Next with some liquid gold paint gild the rim of each reel, and if you are not pleased with your ebony and gold bookcase, you must be a very unreasonable young lady indeed.
