MASTERTON AND GREYTOWN TOWN LANDS.

[(from the Wairarapa Standard,)' ■ jln the House of Representatives on Ttiefedayi-night Mr Beetham moved the second reading of theMasterton and Oreytovrn Town Londs Management Bill, explaining *' that its obje'oTwas to transfer to Grey town part of a reserve 'held now in tiust for the joint benefit of both townships, Forty-eight acres were to be transferred to the local authority of Greytown, on payment of £250. Mr Ivess moved'as an'ainend'mont, that the Bill be read that day six months. He objected that this land ;was being sold in opposition to the I expressed desire of the people of MasI terton, and that the trustees had not called a. public meeting when requested by- a, numerously signed requisition represented last Friday, besides ■ignoring previous requests,' He believed the public feeling- in'Masterlon was strongly against this .Bill, which he could r.ot help saying was being indecently hurried throughttheHouse." The statements made by Mr Iycbi—probably at the instigation of the Editor of the Star, and that pestilent Wairarapa nuisance, Mr Alfred Renall :'—are almost entirely untrue. The whole' proposed transaction is perfectly understood by both; the Greytown and Masterton people, and & general feeling Is entertained—save by the Star-oum-Renall petty clique—that tho arrange-, wont proposed to be carried out by the 'Bill is a ; just and reasonable one. Ultimately, tho amendment proposed by Mr Ivess was withdrawn and the second reading of the jBiJI carried, on the understanding thati it. should be referred to the Waste Lands Committee, who will take the evidence of all the parties interested. Due care must be taken that tho real facts of the case shall be placed before the Committeo so ! as to secure the passing .of the Bill..
