EE PAYMENT OF WOBKMEN EMPLOYED ON CONTRACTS LET BY TP PUBLIC WOBKa DEPARTMENT. ATTENTION is called to clause 23 of the Conditions of Contract, which provides that workmen, tradesmen, an.] labourers of every class employed 011 the works to which these conditions refer shall be paid their wages in full in money, current coin of {lie colony, at least once in every fortnight, and no tioket or other system of payment ly provisions, liquors, or goods will 011 any protenco be allowed, The workmen of every class shall he paid on the works if it be possible, or in some building adjoining, and in no ease shall they bo paid at a publichouse, or other place where liquors or refreshments are sold. The penalty for any breach of this clause, as often as the same sh ill happen, is fifty pounds; and it is lawful for the Minister lor Public Works, without any notice to tho oontractor, or any further process of law, to deduct ;lhe penalty or penalties from any moneys that may be due or owing to tho contractor under this contract, or that may hereafter be due or owing thereitudor.
