WAIRARAPA WEST COUNTY COUNCIL.

The usual monthly meeting took place at the'' Institute, Carterton,, on ; Saturday last, /Presentr-Messrs Booth (chairman), 3, and H.E. Bunny, Buchauan,Braitbwaite, RusseJi and Matthews, ( "' The minutes of the lagt. ojeeting were read and confirmed. ; ' Communications .were read fromCrs, Barton and Phillips, apologising for their absence, and from Cr Buchanan, that he would not be able to attend until after the arrival of the 11.30 train. ;; ; ; The treasurer's report was; read, showing an overdraft at the Bank of 1296105, mid the. customary tablo of exietiog dr. andcr. balance: the receipts since the last meeting having been LBIO lis Bd. lake may. A letter was read from Mr Taylor, agreeing to give up possession of the Ferry Deserve, buildings, boats, &0., and lodging a claim for compensation for 1300. Cr Bunny said the, Ferry Committee had prepared draft specifications and advertisements for rolotting the Ferry Reserve and premises, and suggested that a further clause should he added, ''That the Cbpoilw.ould "not offer any opposition .to a publican's Ucengo being granted for,;the premises," 'J'his was agreed to.

Considerable .discussion then took place as to Mr Taylor's olaim for compensation, andultiuiatelyit wasresolved, "That the Lake Ferry Committee have authority to deal with, Mr Taylor as to the compensationrforhijrights to buildings, fencing, and.Ferry'Eeaeave,' The'subsequent ;dealings.with the property ! aa to oalliug for and acceptance of '■ tenders, terms, of lease, &0,, were also vested in the same committee: : ! f ,: '■■■ SPECIAL RATE POLL. It was'resolved on the 'motion of Or Bunny, seconded by Cr Russell,, that the Council adjourn for three months, the Chairman and Public Works Committee having as'ftill'power to act in all matters as if their report had been ]a)d: before and approved •of iby ; the liCounoil, and the Chairman to have the power to call a special'meeting if need should ariso,.
