REPORT OF THE INSPECTOR OF HOSPITALS.

The report of the Inspector of. Hospitals, Dr Grabhain, wm laid on the table of the House of Representatives yesterday, From this, it appears that there are 38 hospitals in the colony, In some a subscription of from liOo £1 Is for the year entitles to free, Admission; in others there is a weekly payment besides the subscription; and in others it is not necessary to subscribe at all. The greatest abuse of the hospitals is their employment for tho reception of aged and infirm people, and chronic cases, The total number of in patients in the New Zealand Hospitals has been 6110; and of out patients 8985 ; total, 15,095. The receipts, on account of hospitals, have : been £50,747 16s 9d. (No notice appears of any receipts from Auckland.) The report of the Wellington Hospital is very unfavorable; more so, apparently, than that of any hospital in the colony, We extract from various parts as follows;—"No kitchen ; garden exists, and a general air of untidyness prevails. The building cannot bo said to be well planned, The hot water supply is very unsatisfactory. There ar6 no pictures, but a few texts, on the walls. A general appearance of muddle and untidyness prevails." The Inspector has " reason to believe that the Matron is not by any means well fitted for her post. Complaints were general as to the food and its serving. The Steward is not efficient, and his services should be dispensed with." The Auckland, Hospital,iß, on .the whole, , the most favorably 'noticea,— N,Z, Times. * ■
