LIVE STOCK MARKET.

Messrs 11. Matron ,& Co report on the live stock market, &c, for tho week: ending Thursday, June 14, 1883, as follows :r- i "■ For yesterday's Addington market a fair average supply of stock oamo to hand, butchers'; lines—both merino and crosß brads—making up the bulk of tho entry in sheep, though several lots of mixed stores were also penned. In attendance, tho uiual representatives of the trade were present, but from tho commencement of the sale it was evident that most uf the buyers were indifferent as to purchasing, and that a dragging; trade was to be the order of the day—this proved to be the case, more especially for the medium or inferior olasses of mutton, 1 \ !A!s regards values,' the sale was one of the. most irregular we havo witnessed for some time past, the irregularity 1 arising from its weakneßs o/.tono. On account of Mr H. Overton, we plseed hia cross-bred ewesheavy, weights— at from,l6s to 17s 3d, a price which fully upheld late quotations; Mr' John l Murray's wethers lighter weights— also selling well at 16s 9d; this last line, as also one or two others of prime quality, being secured for export freezing purpsses, Of merinos, there was a larger proportion on offer than usual, though most of the lots were comparatively neglected, and a good few turned out unsold, Mr J. 0. Wason's wethers were, however, of such superior quality that they commanded a lot of attention, and although offered late in the day, sold readily at prices ruling up to 14s—the top quotatipn of the season, For several other consignments of very nice quality 'J* to 9s 6d per head had to be accepted, a price in comparison to weights certainly much below that of any market for the last two months, The same remarks apply to medium class orosa-breds, for which the general rates wefo 13* 1 6d to 14s 6d, or equal to a quotation of 2\i per lb, extra prime a shade over. In stores there is a'considerable alteration in trade, ind we 'quote values as being 10 to 15 per cent lower at present than, six weeks or two months since —in fact the whole tone of the sheep market is decidedly weaker; and mere in favor of. buyers. Whilst regretting this, downward ''tendency, we cannot hope or oxpeot to see the same recovered for some time, as turnip ahoep will now be coming forward; regularly, and we fear that tho'truth of oar remarks made some two or three months since as to the unwarrantable riße which then took place Will-be; ihiflomo measure'verified, The export trade is no doubt destined to make a vast alteration in the; improvement and regularity of the values of stock, but from the two shipments which have already left Canterbury hone but the direct shippers have felt any benefit, the supply having been drawn from reserved source, without in any way Meeting the open market, There are many with whom the prospects' of the new Freezing and Export Co. now being established find a consider-

jlble amount of favor, and if any further inducemeuts wore required as to theopeni'n'i; lip or the' necessity for sucb a company, the result of the British King's shipment, and -Wednesday's values fur mutton rauat be most encouraging. The fat oattle' sale was somewhat more iparfloly.'aupplied than for several markets' past, and for the best quality .beef. Bales were effeoted with a little'more briskness than of late. On account of Mr James Gregg, we disposed of a line of 14 steers at an average of a trifle over £1 6s per head; lighter weights' for other owners, iSs:te£6, or eqnalto from 18s to 22a per 1001b, according to quality. Iu stores, values remain unaltered, .vory little business of any kind being done in this class of stock. .The supply of fat pigs of all descriptions ; is falling off, and it is probable that curers will have a difficulty in securing what will.meet their requirements. Values still continue high, sales' being made readily.
