ASSASSINATION OF A TURKISH PRIEST.
The "Varna correspondent of the " Daily News" states that the Turkish Government, are doing their beat to keep secret the assassination of the Imaum,-which occurred in the mosque of Akaerai, Stamboul. The newspapers are forbidden to speak of it, and ; the only allusion allowed to be published is a notification from the Press Department that the assassin has been arreated and will be sent to prison. His examination is conducted with closed doors, The Moslems believe that as the crime was committed in a mosque he will be condemned to death, but liitherto ; tne present Sultan has not permitted.the execution of a single capital -.sentence upon a Moslem. The facts are the following:—"One day at noon the Imaum read the ordinary : prayei"s in one of which occurs a verse of the Koran which says that rulers ought to; be just and act righteously, and that \ justice 'should be meted out to- every-,' body without distinction, The -pjrjiyer was then continued, and Allah thanked that under the Sultan's rule/- the Government was in accordance/ with this teaching, As the iwor/uV woro uttered, Sali, a Sophta, ran |o thej pulpit stairs and shouted out; !fWha| you say is fake. We are ground down to poverty, and living undi&r a,tyranny, There is no justice,; You lie and deserve death.' Say|r| this the Imaum. out of the Mora.' It the quarter a news was at.onra sent which irnraeuiately k§P& the dismissal of the-Policb Minister. Another murder of a Mbllah has been committed in the "same quarter. The two murders have caused considerable excitement m Stamboul, and great irritation against the palftce."
