Wellington v Masterton. The firet contest between the above Cluba took place in Mr George Dixon's paddook yesterday afternoon in the presence of a large number of spectators, visitors being present from all parts of the''district, Greytown especially being well represented. The recent rain had made the ground rather heavy, which otherwise/would have been in good condition, The -sides of the field ofrplay was roped, to keep the spectators: back, and while the play was confined to the middle of the field it answered admirably/but when near the goal lines the crowd would press round and mingle with the players, so that scoring was almost impossible. As on Saturday last/ -this was the cause ofa dispute, arid in yesterday's case the game was sloped- thrpjigh it. It is to be hoped 1 that when th'e Wellington Association meet they will settle the vexed ; question; as to what coustituteS a' ; dead'baii,'. ; f6r with the present uncertain state of-Affairs a match. will;'' never' be 1 ; satisfactorily finished..
