CimiSTCUURcn, Monday. The New Zealand Shipping Company have received cable advices of the arrival of the British King at Rio, on May 2. All well ; frozen meat in prime condition. The Company have chartered the magnificent Cunard steamer Catalonia, 4841 tons. She was built-in Clyde, and is of great speed.
Christchurch, Monday. The weather this morning was very cloudy, but the eclipse was visible for five minutes at 8.30, when half the disc appeared to be covered. The effect, as seen between a break in the clouds, was very fine. No sun spots were noticeable.
Reefton, Monday. At the nomination for the Inangahua election to-day Shaw and Wakefield were nominated. The show of hands, as officially declared, was Shaw 70, Wakefield 32. A poll was demanded.
