Father mother and four children have been burned to death near Beechworth. The father succeeded in bringing out two children from the burning house, and on returning for the others was suffocated. The two children who wero brought out died soon after of burns which they had received. SYDNEY,
May 5. The six day's walking match between Edwards and O'Leaiy, for £2OO a side was concluded to-night, and was won by tho former by seven miles. The distances covered were ■■■ Edwards 466 miles, O'Leary 459. Edwards has thus covered the. greatest distance yet recorded in the colonies. Great excitement prevailed at the finish, ADELAIDE, May -5. At the South Australian Jockey Club's meeting to-day, the race for the St. Leger was won by Guesswork. MELBOURNE. . May 6. Timothy Kelly, one of the Phoenix Park prisoners, in whose case the jury were unable to agree upon the verdict, will be again brought up for trial tomorrow (Monday), NEW YORK, May 5. The Pennsylvania ironworkers are agitating for an increase of wages, and it is feared that a serious strike is impending. It is estimated that 100,000 men at Pittsburg. and in the neighborhood are connected with the movement. LONDON. .May 4. - The trial of Lawrence Hanlon, for the attempted, murder of Mr Field, the juryman in the Hyrids case, in November last was concluded to-day. The jury brought in a verdict of guilty, and Hanlon was sentenced to penal servitude for life.
In the House of Commons to-day, Mr Bradlaugh was heard at the bar of the House in support of his application that he should be permitted to take the oath and his seat. After he had concluded his speech, Sir.Stafford Northcote moved that Mr Bradlaugh be not allowed to swear, and the motion was adopted, on division, by 271 to 165.

Colonial breadstuff's continuo quiet, Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, 50s; New Zealand wheat, ex warehouse, 45s to 48s 6d; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 34s 6d. Australian tallow has further declined. Best beef quoted at 435, brat mutton at 455. . Total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 2,200,000 quarters. SYDNEY, Monday.
