TINUI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the above Committee was held on the evening of May 2nd. Present —Messrs Maokay (Chairman), '.l'elford, Groves, Knight, Stilbom, R. Langdon, and J. A. Perry. The minuteß of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence read—Outwards: To ! Education Board re increase of teacher's salary, appointment of a mistress to teaoh sewing, and requesting that the school be supplied with desks. Inwards: From Education Board slating that stops will bo taken in the spring to orect a separate bmldiug for a school, • 1; ' From Same agreeing to pay Mrs Ward a salary of £o for teaching sewing. From same intimating that the teacher's salary will be increased by the sum of £lO ■;■;/.■;! From same inforrain« the .Committee that desks will be forwarded upon Mr Lee's return to Wellington, From tho toacher Mr Ward, drawing' '' attention to the irregular attendance of some (if the ohildron. From same, ro repairs to the school • building and fence, From same, commenting on the-exam- • ination of the Bchool, and Mr Lee's report thereon, From same, re number of prizeß to bo given next year. From Mr T. W. Steward, ro proposed ■■; bill to amend the present Education Aot, ' < ; ' and requesting the Committee to answer some forty-four questions on educational subjects. The following resolutions were then, passed:— That Mr Ward's application for repairs to the building and fences be granted, and that Mr J. Groves be authorised to qet the work done.
That with regwd : to the irregular attendance of children, the Chairman be requested to communicate with Constable Collerton re aotitn; as Truant Inspector, and that parents whose children do not attend be wntton to and reminded that i he compulsory clauses will be stringently enforced.
That the consideration of Mr Steward's letter and questions be postponed till next meeting.
That Messrs Telford and Stilbom be appointed to visit the school during the next three months. .•..;:..;, That the Chairman be authorized to ' v order a supply of firewood, for the use of the school. ""IV
