DNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION] New Plymouth, Thursday, The Supreme Court was opened today by Justice Gillies,, In his charge' to tho- Grand Jury, His Honor said the cases were somewhat numerous, but not more so than was to be expected in a growing population. Most of the cases came from the out districts, on the outpost of civilisation, where wild and lawless characters congregated. At tho same time, the cases were not of a.heinous character, none of tho higher classes being on the calendar, There are ten charges against eight three of whom are Maoris, The most, serious charge is one of arson; There was a prisoner on bail charged with forgery on a bank pass-book. As the .Judge was : given to. understand that there was a doubt as to his Burvendering: to his bail, he would order him to be called before the bill was sen 1 ; to the Grand' Jury, so that it might hot be necessary to deal with the-.case. . . •
