COLONIAL BLUNDERING. ; [TO THE EDITOR WAIRARAPA DAILY. J Sir,—Will you be kind enough to give me a small space to explain the above. We have a loan of i 2,600 for this district under the Roads and Bridges 4 Construction Act, and this'is how I nra told the money is to be laid out. First there is a bridge near Mr Hawkins' property to co3tabout £lO. This would be all very well if we, had the applied for, but as matters now stand it is a blunder, as one has to travel through nine miles of heavy mud before getting to it. The next thing is to cut down about 40 acres of bush two • chains wide on oach side of the road to Mr John MacKenzie's property, cost say about a £IOO, beyond which there is the compensation to be paid to Mr MacKenzie, and I do not wonder at his asking for a compensation seeing how the 'money is being squandered. . This is only a small part of the work, as there is more to be done on Moore's side of tho bush. When it is asked why this work was to be done, why this money was to be spent in this way, ''l< was told it was to let. in the sun and the rain, Now this road in the bush is the best we have after leaving the gravel atTeOro'Oro, in fact thore Kabout a mile of ifr along which we m'V canter, and that is where tho heayV' bush is, while the road outside of the bush is the worst of the whole lot, far worse than inside the ; bush, for, were your blunderer who'conceived I 'this brilliant idea jogging along by my side I would take him along to what is called Perry's Flat, where there is about one mile of side cutting formed which gets all the wind and sun possible, and which is the veriest hog n)jre a man every endangered his/horse's legs in. But in'considering the expenditure there is not one word said about 'gravelling, and this, I submit, is the ~ question for the Council; to, go into if.i thoy wish to do lissome good. There is plenty of gravel on -Perry's Plat, and at Bridgo Creek, "and if they cannot do the whole work at once let the council put out the money at interest until the spring instead of squandering it-in the way now proposed. So far.,'as the bridge is concerned a cutting; in and out .with a good grade andi well ". gravelled might be done at a cost of about 430, and wqujd meet all requjrq- .: ments for many vearg tq.cpnj.e. [tothe editor,] ; ;;' ; Sir,—l havo seen by the nomination: i; - : paper that Messrs Bish, Renal], and "[". Hare, are candidates tq filj the seats vacated ty tw SaP an/l Wvigley.' It isgratifying tq qbserye that siqce Mi Renall retired from the Trust the business has been oonduoted satisfactorily and prosperously. It is therefore the duty of the electors, at the election on Thursday next to bear in mind that if Mr Renall is elected a most, unhappy state of things will follow, and the prosperity of the Trust will be checked •: by the factious opposition which Mr Renall is in the habit of giving co-trusfeejj 'wljeq"oppqset}' 'tq" j)iq unreasonable demands. I also observe'that Mr Renall has , called a publio meeting to air his elo '■' "' queuce, but the question of selling the Grey town Trustees the interesting Masterton. in the 48 acre Reserve, has ' already been submitted to the people and decided in the affirmative, and as n this meeting is not a meeting of the Trustees but one rather of abuse and ill-feeling towards men wh,Q have really done their cjuty, it is to be jjQpe'd't|a|, # .
