■•... From the N. Z; Times. The ordinary- fortnightly meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held yesterday. Present—Meagra J; G. Hdldsworth (chairman and Commissioner),. T. Mason, H, Buany, and W. W, Taylor. From schedule No. 116 submitted-by the ohdirman it appeared that So3acres 3roods Bperches had been disposed of at an upset price of 1(551 the payments rocoivoi being £419 17a.' One hundred and fifty-sight acres, .pf.the value -.of: £ 237-, ■' was'taken- up on .deferred payments,-and the balance for cash. An application from Henry Baskin for leave to purchase, or occupy with right ofpiu'cha'soja section in Huntervillo was not acceded to. James Morley, holder of a license to oc'iiop/-a oeotion in the Mangaone ■ Block, being in arrears, and his whereabouts 'being unknown, it was decided to cancel his license, An application from Meisra Handyside & Eoberts, through their solicitors, Messrs Chapman & FiizGerald, to purohase a small unnumbered seotion' at the, mouth of the 'Aliiteo River, wasnot granted... A transfer '6f Mtiori 1682, block IX., Kairanga, from Mr'G.'N. Stephenson to Mr J. Kearnis, was approved of. Mr G.-F. Robinson, the board's ranger, presented his first report upon the improvements effected on de-ferred-payment lands in the Mangahoa, Kairanga, and Arawaru districts. ' There are 47 allotments, of a total area of 5713 aoresin thedistrict, nndMvEobinßon found that the aggregate value of the improvements'made was-nearly double the amount required in the conditions of purohase. In only three cases the holders had not complied with the conditions, were living on their land in one case r and were hard at work. In another very little had been done, while in the third nothing had been done. He dwelt at some length upon the advantage derived by settlers who had formed roads adjoining their sections and pointed out that where such was tho case, improve. men'ts'Hacl been made at a most satisfactory rate,'whereas those settlers who experienced' difttciiity; in approaching their selections, we're "behind them in a very marked degree. He pointed out that by constructing roads before sale the board would receive a better price, the land would be more speedily.settled,, and the country would gain by the increase in the:rateable value'of the'distriot .It was resolved that J.. L. Bacon's seleotion, No 1621, Bunnythorpe, be forfeited, and that Messrs T.S.Hillas, A. Love, B. P. Warmington, and J..Moore be granted a certificate of title for their selections in the Mangahao Block. With. regard to. the question of the'faext-. auction sale of land, it was resolved that a schedule of all lands to be. included be prepared and submitted for approval at r the. next 'meeting of the board, including those sections previously selected,qn deferred payments, the licenses' of whfoh Ijave'been forfeited, Mr W. H..Gibson, of-Arainoho, Wanganui, wrote for"information ,as to terms under which 'be would he permitted to lease or .buy land ut. the Tauangatutu Block.'
