The prevalent opinion as to the near approach of oheaper money, together with the half yearly bank balances, deter investors from operating to any extent in tho share market. If we except local mining matters, there is nothing to report unless continued depression. The Terawliiti Gold Field has, during the past month, devoloped splendid sione.in tho Golden Crown Company. Great numbers uf shares have changed bauds at constantly increasing figures, and the claims ndjiicent have also come prominently forward. Crushing machinery is being rapidly put upon the ground, and if a modicum only of the slioveholdurs' expectations are realised, we shall perhaps find Wellington presently in possession of an El Dorado rich enough to revolutionise the existing conditien of affairs. We note with satisfaction that a deal of money continues to find a channel into industrial companies, and that the public confidence in these institutions appears to incrcaso.
Banks.—Buyers insist on lower quotations, and any business is difficult to transact. Colonials are wanted at 45s fid, and Nationals tit par. Insurance.—Very little doing. Na : tionals and Coluuinls are somewhat better as financial period comes on, Shipping—N.Z, Shipping Company's stock hato declined live shillings during past month, and aro without recovery, Miscellaneous,-Wellington Trust and Loans have been sold ai 4s reduction, but aro now required at better price National Mortiiaijo are pressed. N.Z. Drug Company, Kaiapoi, and Mosgiel Woollen Companies are all in demand. Wellington and Manawatu Railway, sellers, sixpence discount, Mines.—Keep-it-Darks, Welcomes, Golden Fleece, Homeward Bounds are sought for at lower rates, but there are few sellers.
