GLADIOLUS. To the Editor..'-.., : Sir—Being absent from; Masterton I was not aware of the letter that appeared re the gladiulus swindle. Permit mo to say that the swindle was not perpetrated by a gardener. I think it would have, been much better to have given the name of the party than to have placed the matter in the vaguo light it has appeared before the public, and thus leave it open to evildiapo ed persons to circulate damniiif; reports against innocent parties. I have sold a large assortment of gladiolus Masterton that on all occasions have fcivon entire satisfaction to planters, Youis etc, W. W. MoOaedle.
The tiial of Arabi Pasha is regarded in Berlin asaludicious ending to so fearful a tragedy. The sparing of his life is attributed to the influence exercised by England in stoutly opposing the Cabinet which weakly sunendered him.* i
Tho Rev, W. Colenso -writes a long letter to the Hawkc's Bay Heiald, which thus concludes:—l deem this last political act of Mr Bryce, "of so publicly, bo freely, so genuinely pardoning the unfortunate, the wronged, Te Kooti, a> the very,best of all his public political aotg known to me;- '"'
