A remarkably large terolite, weighing more than half a ton, has fallen at Aix, in the department of the Haute Garonne, Franco Lord Berwick, who has just succeeded to that title, has, with his wife, made his home for twelve years, winter and summer, on his yacht. In India and Ceylon out of seventytwo missionaries twenty-four are children of missionaries. The native Christians at Madagascar have given £20,000 during the last ten years for the spread of the Gospel. Seven hundred and eighty-eight thousand bottles of mineral water were imported from Hamburg by Australia in 1881. - The Socialist newspaper Freiheit, which was formerly printed in London, but which has lately been set up in Switzerland, has been seized by the Swiss Government. The Socialists now contemplate removing their journal again to England. They have written to Sir William Harcourt, asking if they might be granted permission to print it on British soil. At Leicester, England, a few weeks ago, the auction of goods seized for the non-payment of fines for neglect ot vaccination occasioned almost a riot, and forty police could scarcely keep order.

Leadville, during the past five years, has produced 28,000,0000z of silver, 140,000 tons of lead, and 26,000 of gold, exclusive of 100,000 tons of ore shipped to other towns for treatment. During a recent visit of the German

Crown Prince to the village schools of . The iniquitous tariff system of the United States has. had a disastrous effect upon the laboring population, on whom its burdens fall with a most crushing severity. While it increases their living expenses, it also decreases wages in many industries by the complete monopoly ensured to the manufacturing rings, who rob the consumer on the.one hand and cut the wages of their work-people down to starvation point on the other.

Professor Houghton, at a recent meeting in Dublin, to consider "the employment and technical training of women in Ireland," was in favor of Wing the term " women" rather than ,( ladies" jn connection with the proposed institution, He trusted that Irish ladies would never be anything but women.
