i guarantee. Tho £6OO never got into t( i his' own hands,(noif had ;he any personal control ;of it.) ljift not kuow of a; .sum of eighty .pounds' paid by his father for'tlie' purchase of a property, e from him, Did not remember receiv-; inga specific suin of eighty founds 1 from his father during the last three months. He lliought there was no j; Such sum in connection with the Taueru r. property.- His father paid him a sum !. of money for goods supplied to some contractors :he employed there. His father's claim of .£175 arose out of an 3 endorsement to Bacon ik Co,, from whom tho witness purchased wheat. 8 His father had paid £IOO already, 8 and there was an endorsed bill af £75 yet to meet. ; The money paid, to the i contractors was included in tho items entered in tho ledgers There were no ! purchase monies between his father and himself, excepting those, he had already disclosed. Mr Forwood-rWhere are the .six horses mentioned in the schedule 1. Mr Vile—Two are at Mauriceville, ' one at Opaki, one at tho Taueru, one at Mr Baker's farm, and another ,in the possession of my brother at Mas--1 terton. j How did they get distributed ? ; They were in use in different parts of tho district, excepting one which got astray. One cart and harness is at Baker's and the other is at Mr John. Rayner's on the Taratahi. Ido not know whero the buggy and harness are. On Monday last the buggy was at my house in Masterton. My father and brother were in it. The two carts and the buggy have not been sold. The. furniture is in my wife's house. She bought the house about seven months ago.with money lent to her by her bro-' ther. The latter advanced her £3OO for the purchase on a similar sum left to her under her father's will. The money was lent to my wife, not to me. I am not aware that I am responsible for the repayment. of it, I cun'fc be positive whether I signed a deed in connection with the transaction. •• My brother William had nothing to do with it. I recognise the documont marked A; it. bears my wife's signature. It was sent by Mr Gawith's advice and riiy concurrence. The premises named in tho document arc my wifo's house, None of the chattel property mentioned in the bill of sale has been sold to my father or brothers, i I gave uiy Trustee a list of book debts i yesterday. To the best of my know- i ledge it is a true one, one item in the i ledger excepted (Christiansen k Co), which requires to be amended. I ani 1 now manager for Mr Christiansen's i lime business. I was never a partner ' with him, but iny father is. I have I an old account for carrying amounting i to £lO against Mr Chamberlain. ] An account of £lO 2s 4d has I been paid by Mr Hadfield, but the ( credit entry may have been omitted, i I transferred my interest in the Taueru 1 property to my father about the 6th i December. I cannot explain why the c £6OO was not paid to my. credit till the f 2ridof February. Ido .not know who 1 held the money in the interim. ■ The 1 whole thing was a matter of arrange- \ ment between the Bank of Australasia i and my father. There was ; no arrange- t ment between my father and myself a by which the money was held over, a ' I negotiated tho sale on the under- s standing that my father should reduce ; my indebtedness to the Bank by £6OO. I did not arrange with my father to pay £2,200 to Mr Eenall, and £6OO to ,my credit at the Bank, The arrangement was made between my j father and the Bank. I understood that my Bank overdraft was to be reduced by £6OO. How it was to be reduced did not concern. me. Mr Renall was a party to the arrangement t for the distribution of the £2,800. He did not know as far as he was aware that £6OO of it was to be placed to my ' credit beyond his £2,200. Mr Renall got £2,250 on the 19th of December. I know this only from the evidence of my Bank pass book. (The examination .was continuing when our reporter left.)
