CASTLEPOINT ROAD BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Board was held at Tinui on Saturday last. Present—Messrs Mackay (Chairman), Langdon, Williams, and Belliss, The minutes of the previous mealing were read mid confirmed, and the Treasurer reported a balance available for future expenditure, of 1923 Us lQd. The wages.bills were ihen read and passed for payment, and the report of the clerk of works was read and considered, Correspondence was read from the Commissioner of Property Tax, with real property roll; from Eli Smith, asking for payment of timber out; from A. Walker, re Wlmkavoro road! from G. Waterson, re Waitawili bridge erection ; from McGregor Bros, re payment of timber supplied ; from T, P. Lett, re cost of cartage of timber; from 0. E Gawith with account of £3.3s for preparing lease, The following tenders were read and declined :-Fnr Tinui Toll Gate, W. Vile £IOO a year; Tnroman and Mason £IOO a year. 'For metalling and forming 5 chains road at Ciistlepoint, J, A. Perry £ 2olos 6d ; Foreman and Mason £2O, The following resolutions were Ihen passed-..—.That the road from Flint Ouiting to Island Flat bo remetalled. That the Masterton Board be written to relative to a chargo of £l4, made for survey pf road in Moroa district. That the Clerk ho directed to collect all money due on aocounfc of Tinui Toll Gate. That the clerk be directed to pay Mr Taylor at the rate of one pound per week for colleotingotolls. That Mr Perry's and Mason and Foreman's tenders for work at Gastlepoint be declined,'and fresh lenders be invited for the work! That fresh tenders be invited for lease of toll-gate to close at noon on Saturday 3rd March. That lenders be again called for erection of Wailuwhili Brilge near Tiraumea wdolshed, tender? to close at noon on Saturday the 3rd March. That this Board being of opinion that the Wongaehu Valley contains the best route for a railway line, and that it will be more beneficial to the general interest of the district, and the opening and settlement of the Crown Lands, would impress nn the Government the desirability of making every enquiry before finally accepting tenders, such careful enquiries in the opinion of this Board not having yet been made, The following accounts were passed for payment;— Metalling-.
