James Carey, one of the prisoners, has turned iuformer, and was examined at length, In the course of his evidence he stated that he believed' the nun-der fund was formed from money collected by the Land League, and appropriated for the purpose. He also stated that all the prisoners, except two, were members of the "Assassins' Commit tee," and gave evidence fully confirming .the existence of the " inner circle" of assassins. Carey admitted" that he suggested the use of knives for committing the Phoenix Park murder, and announced the approach of the victims. He averred that the chief actor in the murder was the prisoner Brady. He affirms, however, that the operations of the "Assassins' Committee" wote directed by a mysterious personage, with whose name he was unacquainted, and who was known as" Number one." The revelation has greatly increased the sensation which is felt throughout the country.
