CARTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A special meeting of the : Committee of the Carterton School was held on Monday evening, all the members being jn attendance. The Chairman (MrR. Pairbrother) said he had called the members together in , consequence.'of reports' that were flying about the town and letters that had appeared in the local : press '/.respecting the collation for and .purchase of prizes that had boon presented a short time baok. There were one or two other matters that would have to be brought forward, but perhaps they had better take this one first as the ruoit urgent. The letters that had appeared on the subject in the last two issues of the Ob' setver were then read.
The Chairman thought it might havo beon hatter if" Contributor" had in the first place brought the matter before the oommittee to inquire into insteitd of through the press, but he had thought it rij(ht to bring, the matter before them as it had got abroad. If they went by hearsay, and what he knew had been told him and others by Mr Mayhew, aome £lB had been collected, andif he could show what had been received and how it had been expended, that would dear him. That if he fail to do bo the matter would be! reported-to the Eduoation Board," .. :' <,. i.;,, • ; , V A discussion then ensued as to the in* adequacy of the teaching .power in the school, and it was resolved : " That in' the opinion of this 'Committee two .competent teaohers are. in the Bohopl., and that the Board be requested to. fur? nish the same." Messrs Blair, Beeth&m, and Booth were nominated for the Eduoation Board, ■ - The meeting then adjourned until 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening." ;
