WOODVILLE.
[from an occasional correspondent.] A public meeting was held- on the 22nd inst. to elect a new school committee, Amongst others who spoke was Mr Koundtree who hails from your neighborhood, After, the above, the Public Library Committee met and were re-elected.
Building is going on rapidly. The Temperance Hotel is now roofed in and floored, and is an extremely substantial well built block. Murphy's additions to the Woodville Hotel are also advancing rapidly, Mr Roundtree having a large staff of hands to assist, The filling in of the bank site is nearly completed, and will soon bo fit for building which will commence shortly. Mr McKenzie from Te Aute arrived yesterday by coach, and has taken a cottage with the idea of permanently residing here, and personally superintending the building of the new hotel, which he is about to erect ontho corner opposite Murphy's hotel. Mr Bevau's photographic studio, is also taking its rank as an important building. It is on the most approved modern design, and contains two immense aky and side lights. But the " very latest" step is the formation of the Woodville Public Hall Co; Limited. At the first meeting 150 shares were subscribed in the room. Nearly double the number are promised from Napier capitalists, so that the hall will probably be commenced shortly. • '• . • Mr Ohaiuier, although he has, been with us but six months has already established a rising business ■in land and stock agency, and announces his intention of taking out an auctioneer'slicence before long. So you have a rough sketch of how we are getting on up here, and I think that you will admit that we are not standing, still.
