CASTLE POINT ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of the Board was held at Tenui on Saturday last. PresentMessrs; Maokay (chairman), Lahgdon, Smyth, and Miller. The minutes of the meetirtg held on December 9th were read aud confirmed. The chairman read the new Road Board Act which came into force on the Ist. The Board agreed to proceed under the old by-laws until May. Tha Treasurer reported balance in Bank £941 Ga 10s, and balance'available for future.expendiiureiMJUs 4d, ' The wages bills were read and passed for payment, and tho report of Clerk of Works was read and considered. The following letters were then read From Mr J. Williams stating that lie could notatteud meeting on the 7th. From Mr Baker requesting payment of salary for Aohanga Ferry, From Mr Burling requesting payment of Akito Ferry salary. From Mr W. A. Burling asking for a grant, of 120 to improve the road from Glencoe to Woodlands From Mr 6. McKay asking for an advance on contract at Upper Taueru. From Colonial Secretary's Office stating that Mr Hsndyaide had been gazetted Warden for No. ,7 W»rd of this District.. From Mr Haridyside asking .to be excused from attending the meeting. From survey office with eohedalo of leotions of land which roads may be taken. The following resolutions were then agreed to unanimously That the Clerk of Workß be directed to expend the 155 voted by the County Council for opening up a roid from Mangapakeha via the Whakaroro to Upper TauerUj and that the balance of the grant for Ohonga line be expended at suggested by Clerk,of Works.. The following tenders were read: From Mr T., Pickett Junr. for metalling ob Cashpoint line, £3 12s Od per chain. From Mr Perry, Castlepoint, for forming and metalliug about 5 chains of road at Castlepoint, 1219s 6d, both tenders were considered too high, and fresh tenders were ordered to be asked for, to oloße oa the 3rd Prox. Tenders were ordered to be called for lease of Tinui toll gate as Mr Macara had refused to take up the lease. ■ ' BesolvedThat Mr G. Mackay be paid 75 per cent on amount of work done. Loss amount due for deposit.
That the sum oi £2O asked for by Mr Burling be granted for improving the road from Glencne to Woodlands,
That the application of Messrs Baker and Burling for payment of ferry salaries due for the year 1882 be granted, That the clerk of works arrange to get the portion, of. road at the Junction metalled by day work, and engage teams for that purpose, and also to get the natal on Oastlepoint line put in repair, That Mr Elder he requested to erect a swing gate in place of slip-pannels near the blacksmith's on Uriti line, and that notice be given to all other persons who have gates on road lines to comply with the conditions under which gates ate allowed, within four weeks from date. Messrs Maokay and Langdon were appointed to sign cheques on acconnt of the Road Board.
