' SYDNEY, January 19. • In the legislative ! Assembly last night, Jtfr A, Cameron was. reflected Chairman of Committees. A Bill granting supply to the amount of .£991,000 was passed through all stages. It was announced that the treasurer will deliver his financial statement on the 25th inst. ADELAIDE, January 18. The police have discovered a quantity of gold, amounting to 2760z, which, it is alleged, .formed a part of the bullion stolen from the, all-fated Union Company's steamship Tararua, some time before the loss of that vessel. It appears that a man named Hinton, who was formerly Bteward on board the Tararua, died on Sunday last, and before his death he requested his friends to forward to his brother in San Francisco a box, the contents of which ho kept secret. Suspicion was aroused, and the box being opened was found to contain the gold, and information was given to the police. . This day. There is but little further information regarding the gold discovery. Hinton was formerly second steward of the Tararua, and died of consumption on Sunday last, He had been for a long time under police surveillance. The gold consists of a single ingot, and was contained in an iron bound box. It is doubted whether Hinton was. the sole robber, and the police are making further investigations.
