ASSYRIAN, Winner of the Melbourne Cup, 1882, We present our readers "this week with a portrait of Assyriau, the winner of the Melbourne Gup, 1882, Assyriau is a handsome dark-brown horse/standing nearly 16 hands high, aged 5 years, by Countryman (imp,), out of Firefinder, by Tarragon, out of Deceptive. He was bred by the late Mr, Holland, at Turretville, S. A,, and sold as a yearling to Mr, Barnard, for 90 guineas. Ho is now the property of Mr. Allison, the theatrical agent, and two others, He was trained by Mr. Saville, The time of tho race was 3iniu, 4()scc, which, though about 10 seconds more than the shortest recorded time, is fully accounted for by the race being run during a shower of rain,
