FEATHERSTON HIGHWAY BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of. the abovo Board was held on Saturday last. Present—Measrs Jas. Donald (Chairman), Bidwill, and A. Matthews. The minutoß of the previous meeting wore read and confirmed,

The Treasurer reported a crodit balance of £373 3s 9d, and handed in'hie usual-report, The Chairman reported that the' committee appointed at hwfc meoting had met on tho 32nd ult., when two tenders wore put in for the work on Murphy's Line—A Burgess £1 *Ss per chain, providod metal could be got out of the gravel-pit on Mr Pharazyn's property. He also roported that the tender of Mr Brodie had been acoepted by the committee, which aotion was confirmed.

Correspondoncc—From R, Phillips, asking for information respecting the oreeka'along Underbill Road; from Chief Surveyor, stating that tbo Government did not undertake any liability in the case of roads laid off, but left the responsibility ai to.compensati'ou, in the hands of the local bodies; 'from Clerk of Licensing Committeo, calling attention to the provision of the Act, 1870, under which returning and presiding officer*) were to be appaintea by the. local bodies having jurisdiction; from Messrs Terry and Bailie, asking for a subsidy for Papawaißoadi • It was raolved—That' the Clerk be'instructed to ascertain from the executors of Barton's estate upon what terms theywill allow a roid to be taken through section 7>. That Messrs Terry and Baillie's appliestian stand over for Mr Jaokson's report, That Mr Phillips be informed that the Highway Board only interfere in the matter of creeks in the event of the roads' being affected.
