I The Maiterton Institute committee met Jlast Present—Messrs Boddington (in the chair), Bellar, Hogg, Caselberg, Crundy, McGregor and Payten. | The minutes of the previous meeting,;hav|ing been read and cenfirmed, tha treasurer reported a debit balance of £sl4s. j The Book Committee reptrted that 116 J volumes had been rebound in a very satisfactory manner at lOd per volume, and (recommended that' an additional hundred volutes should be sent to be covered. The recommendation waß endorsed by the meet< ing. A letter was read from Mr Hugh Maw hiney asking terms for use of upper room for, scientific and religious lectures. The implication was referred to the House Committee, An application from the Phoeaix Lodge to place the Temperance Herald on the reading-room table was acceeded t0,;..! A letter was read from the Town Clerk stating that the £4OO loan for the Institute i was arranged, and that after deducting £lB 158 8d for expenses £3819s 3d wan available, The Chairman expressed hi. surprise; at the Borough Council saddling the Committer with the cost of raising the loan. He under* stood alio that the Council to debit them.with interest', which, would 'amount to a further charge of £1". ' MrCaselberg said that his surpriffl wa» that the expeuM of raising so small a loan.
