| UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION | SAD BOAT ACCIDENT. Invercarolll, Nov. 25th. On Thursday two men named Campboll and Giay left Rivcrton in a lighter for the New Rivor, where it was to bo left. They intend' d to return in a whalcbeat, which they also took with them. When near the Heads the lighter drifted towards the beach, and Campbell got into the whalehoat and sot sail, in order to tow the lighter off the shore, Soon after, a heavy sea struck the wliabboat, which filled and sank, Campbell (who had previously fastened himself to the thwart) going down with her. When the vessel came to the surface Gray called to Campbell to get into the lighter; he seemed qiiitc._cool and replied, " Wait a bit, till I get the lashings off," He raised his arms as if to do so when another sea swamped the whale boat, and she turned over with Campbell underneath. Gray was powerless to assist. Cray arrived her* last night. The Kakanui picked up the whalebo.it outside, but a thwart, to which Campbell's body had been attached, was torn out. A man named Wil : iam Fisher was charged at the Police Court this morning with indecently assaulting three little girls. The children being too young to bo sworn the charge .was altered to indecent exposure. There we>e several previous convictions recorded against the prisoner for indecent assaults, and he was sentenced to six months hard labor, "FOBTY GALLONS OF WHISKEY." Wellington, .this day.
