The Spring Meeting at Tauherenikau yes-, terday was held under very adverse conditions, owing to the state of the which was' extremely wintry. The"rain came: down at intervals in torrents, and hail was occasionally thrown in for variety. The state of the course under these circumstances can very easily bo imagined, Its heavy nature, completely upset calculations as to probable winners, and the day's racing waa a series of '! boil-oyers." The privilege : holders wished the races postponed", but tho Stewards determined to oarry out the programme, having made all arrangements for doing so, and obtained trains for that particular day. 'The excursion trains, however did not contribute many visitors to the course, which is too! fW from, the railway line to .:evern!at« traot 1 a large number, particularly when, as was the case yesterday, there is not a solitary vthiole in attendance at the Station an th« arrival of Mi
