DEATH OF COLONEL PAOKE. Christchoroh, October IC. News has just been received of Colonel Paeke's death. He has been ailing for a 'long time, add his death has several times heen reported before its ocrurrence. It is unfortunately true on this occasion. He waß only 46' or .47 years of age, He joined the army at the Crimean.war, and was at the relief of Lnoknow. He came to New Zealand in 1862, became captain of the old No. 2 Company, then Major, and en Colonel Reader's romoval was placed in charge of the Canterbury, district, a position which he has held ever since. He had been suffering for a long time from congestion of the lungs, and died at 2.30 p.m, today at'Sumner., He was much respeoted being very genial in his manner and a great enthusiast in field spoils.
