Sir Garnet Wolseley will remain in Egypt for another fortnight, but at the expiration of that ,tima will roum to England. : (Received. Sept. 29, 1882.) Alexandria, September 25. A goods train, loaded with ammunition, exploded while standing at the railway station, _ Cairo. The British officers were holding a.race meeting in the vicinity at the time, and a nurtber of Arabs and Europeans who. were near the train at tho timo, were blnwn into the air by tho .furcoof the explosion, thirty persons being killed. Tho station and neighboring building are iii flames. Explosion of a similar nature continue to occur. Tho oause is attributed to the intense heat, Later. '" MASTERTON DEBATING SOOIETY; . ■ Tlie.annuaj meeting of the Society was ho'd last evening, Mr Grundy in the Chair. The Secretary, Mr Redman, read the following report of tho Committeo, for the past year;— >' ■y REPORI. Your Committee in presenting the report and balance sheet, have to congratulate.members oni the satisfactory progress of the .Society during the past year. Although the. financial statement is not so'favorable as your Committee could have wished, owing to many members having repudiated their liabilities, (severalofwliom have in consequence been struck of), by reference to the balance sheet it will be observed that our liabilities:amount, to £5, and oqr assets after deducting £1 Is 'fid', as doubtful, stand at Ls,lis 2d,:but against our liabilities we may fairly set the sum of £5 2i 6d being- rent ;paid in advance by way of'furniture.' -This therefor* must be considered '■ satisfactory. During the year 84' members have been enrolled and ■2l struck off,; either for nonpayment' of subscriptions, or from having resigned, There are now 48 members on the roll of the Sooiety. During the, year several experiments have been tried with the view of improving the conduct of the business of the Society, the most noticeable of which are the obtaining of the uoper room of the Public Library, the admission of the public to the deba|eß, and the introduction of a modifie'd.system of parliamentary pracr tice. The latter has been triad for one month and awaits the report of the Parliamentary, Praotico Committee, Your committee do . not feel called upon to mako any comments on the success or non-success of the two former, as members, have had ample opportunity for judging for themselves,
