Mr Shrimski objected to the rating clause. The Bill was read a second time, Mr M. W Green's Eight Hours Bill was considered in committee. Mr Fitzgerald assured tho mover that tho working classes were laughing at him and advised the withdrawal of the Bill as -absurd and usoleiß, After some discussion the Bill was amended so as to make it simply affirmv tory of the principle and was reported oi amended, Mr Weston moved tho second reading of the offences Against tho Person Bill which provided flogging for certain offences,

A long debate ensued, Hutchison,Hurithouse, Mois, Turnbull, Levastani,-■ Groy, Fish, and Holmes opposing the Bill < asunne'cceisarily severe, and extonding the. use of a degrading punishment. Meisrß Rolloston, M, W. Green, Ful« ton, Trimble, and Peacock supported the. Bill as likely to effectually put down;: larrikiniam and punish a serious and growing class of offonders.
