They would obtain space at tho Amsterdam Exhibition for any one desiring it, but would not pay cost of freight on exhibi's.. They would bo glad to render the mode of collection .of beor tax less obnoxious if it could be shown how it could be done. '
The Trade Marks Bill was read a third time .'and passed after considerable discussion, several members protesting against it as being retrospective legislation. The divisionwas 40 to 27.
The House then went into. Committee of Supply, and continued all the sitting at the Estimates. Mr Montgomery deprecating' any general discussion of 'financial policy till the nublio works statement.and Govern- • ment Bills were beforn the Houso. v.-
Major Atkinson thought .that it would be-' better to 'discuss mattors in dehil, as the whole subject >would be • too large. The first clause taken in Supply was thovote for.the Legislative Department■ of £39,648. Some discuision took-.place on the items £IOO each, for the Chairman of Public Petitions and Native Affairs Committees of tho House which Mr J. C Brown-mmed be struck out. They.-were retaimfVn the voice'.and the total vote passed as amended. The votes for the Premier's office of £450 and Colonial' Secretary's office of £1,895 were passed, Mr Holmes motion to re. duce the latter to £l.77s, : same as last year being lost by 41,t0 25. '
Mr Fish moved to strike out the vote for messengers .and official superintendents (£3,469) in order to have the rata of waeea raised from 6s to 7s per day, but afterwards withdrew his motion and the vote was passed; ; , • •- .
