A meeting was held in the Victoria Hotel on Wednesday at 8 p.m.. on the 14th,inst,, to.take into consideration. tUp. advisability of leasing the Oddfellow's. Halli-. .There .was .a good number of gentlemen present, showing the, interest they took in the matter, Mr Tuckey waa unanimously voted to the chair. After a lit'tlo discussion on the matter Mr Toogood proposed, and Mr Ifeir seconded, that a committee be appointed consisting 'of' Messrs Riddick, Donald,, Benton, Campbell, Cox, and the mover, to 'see what alterations were required to the Hall,and the approximate .cost, of the same, and report on Monday night the 19th inst, at the same place of meeting The first social meeting of this season of the Featherston Mutual Imjiri vement and Debating Society was held in the Royal Hotel on Tuesday, the 18th inst., at 8 p.m. Mr J. G; Cox (Picsident) occupied the chair. Overture,- by Mr J. H. Parker, was a splendid piooo of execution, and created great applause. Pong, by Mr D, C, Keir, "Cookie Darling." This was well rendered, and created great laughter. A comic read : ng, by Mr McFarlane, followed, and was as ?eood a piece of reading as any during the evening, and was well received by the company. Song: "Village Blacksmith," byMrToogood. Very well sang. Couiic reading, by Mr Lambert. Song: " Bonny Sills of Scotland," by Mr J. Viles. This gentleman made a decided hit oil hiß first appearance in the Society, and it is fo be hoped we shall have the pleasure of hear ing'him again, Comic reading, by Mr J. G. Cox. Mr Cox would have got on much better had he not laughed bo 'muclr himself, that was the only drawbaok ; ho seemed to enjoy it thoroughly. Song.: " Far Away," by Mr A. Campbell. This gentleman has a very pleasing voice, and sang very well indeed. After an in. terval of ten minutes, Mr Parker gave another of his beautiful solections, [which was well applauded, and then. ;MrpH. J. Williams sang " Never; More'.' very prettily, which was well received. Comic reading, by Mr J. 6. Cox. ,S.nng: "Waterman," by Mr .McFarlane. Tliis is a very pretty song, and this gentleman sang it with good taste. Sone: "McSorleys Twins," by. Mr R. Barton,. This was the. song of the evening, and Mr. Barton's voioe is so well lniown now'; that'' no comment is necessary. Song, "Tako this letter" by Mr Reid. This gentleman is cultivating a taste for music, and in time will make a fair singer. A song by Mr Toogood, a reading by Mr Lambert, and a 6ong by Mr J. Viles, were well re-; ceived. Song: " Arabs farewell" by Mr" Campbell. Beading by Mr Farlane. Song: " Old log Cabin" by Mr Reid. Song: by Mr Viles. Duet: " Minute gun at Sea" by Toogood and MoFarlane
