MURDER OF AN INFORMER.
A murder was committed in Dublin on the night of February 25. A policeman on his beat heard groans in a place called Skipper's Alley, and; o.i going to the spot found a map on the ground bleeding from a bullet wound in the head. ■ Ho 1 was removed to the hospital, and was afterwards identified as a bacon-curer named Bailey. He is the man who gave the information which led to the recent discovery of arms and ammunition in Dublin, and the arrest of two men 1 The place of the murder is a thickly inhabited • ' district, but no one admits having heard 1 the report of firearms, and it is thought air-guns were used. Since he gave the information Bailey has been under policeprotection. He is believed to have been closely conneoled with the Fenianorganf-. . sation. From the first he knew he would"'..' be murdered, and lived for some time almost entirely in the police barracks. He lost his work and took refuge in the work* house, He ventured out on the night of the 25th, and was shot through the head At the coroner's enquiry Ibe widow said she believed her husband had been shot because he had given info'piation.to the Castle which'led to a seizure of arms. . She knew he. had been threatned, andi .... said he had been unable to get employ-,, ment, the whole of the lower brderjjjn the city being against him. The woman ■'■ > added that her husband had written twice to the authorities, asking to be sent'out of the country, without any result}' but the Crown solicitor asserted that an .offer to pay expenses of the removal of the man and his family had been;made.'
