. UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION./■' .-S GAS DIVIDEND. Hokitika. At the meeting of the Gas Company the directors declared a dividend of 7s Gd per share. OniusTCHUKon, May. 31. Messrs Eokevsley and MoFarlane, a brewing firm at Kaiapoi, were charged with a breach of the Licensing Aot for selling bottled beer and porter in quantities of not loss than two gallops from a branch establishment in Christohuroh. The prosecution argued that a aeparate license was necessary for eaoh district; otherwise a firm could plant a brewery in one place, and sell at any number of branches all over the country so long .88 they supplied the liquor from their own brewers The defence was that defendants were authorised to sell under, their license, without reference to the vessel used, and that the premises woro all part of the brewery under the Aot. Decision was reserved.
