ANNUAL STATISITCS. I have again to acknowledge with thanks tlio courteous assistance I have received from Mr E. Patten, Collector of Customs and Mr Pasley, Chief Inspector of Sheep' in furawmng me with the following statistics and also for the assistance of Mr Menzies Secretary to the Chamber of Commerce in compiling them:—Total acreage of provirP oial district, 1,912,998 acres; land breken up, but not under crop, in Hawke's Bay Waipawa, and Waima Counties, 10 590 acres; Do.do, under crop,do. do., 17891 acres; Surface-sown grass, 686,897 acres. Sheep Insneetov's returns, 31st May 1881 £2,011,746; increase by 1881 lambine from 2,110,000 ewes 70%, 1777,000; export by land and sea for the year, £197,000 j sheep boiled down for tallow, £41,850; district consumption, £180,000; mortality and casualties, 5%, £102,250; nefct district increase, £345,900; stud rams imported 1200 ewea 4615, £1,666; nett increase for yea-' £347,566! estimated total sheep in district' average value>,7/6, £2,392,312. Estimated great cattle, 41,000 head, average value 80/- • horses, 9,750 head,'£!<); pi(r 3l 6,750 head! Wool, Ac., as per collector of Customs' returns exported from the Port of Napier to United Kingdom and Victoria during the the year ending 30th April, 1882:—Greasy wool, direct to Britain and Victoria, 20 023 bales, 545 pockets, £256,625; scoured do, direct to Britain and Victoria. 4,892 bales', 3,173 pockets, £114,774; wool, coastwise to New Zealand ports, 1,127 bales, 440pockot3, £22,697. wool onboard Crowntliorpe and in stores for Bhipmcnt, 3,271 'bales, '■ 1,696 pockets, £62,210; wool from coast stations direct to other ports', £32,068."
