Nmv Plymouth, this day. As the steamer Hauraki from Kaipara to Wailara was nearing the latter place, a seaman named Michael Walsh was knocked overboard by a sail at about 2 o'clock this morning. A boat; was lowered, but got swamped. Life buoys were thrown overboard to him, but without avail and he soon sank.

He was crossing with James Clinton, a settler, both being on one horse when the animal bucked in mid stream, and both men wore thrown. Clinton managed to get ashore, but Shields was carried down int.) the Buller river ond was drowned. His body \yaß recovered on Saturday night a few hours after the accident.
