MASTERTON HIGHWAY BOARD.

A meeting of the Board was held on Saturday: Present-Messrs Buchanan (in the chair), Meredith, Dagg, Chamberlain and Yallanca. ,

Lottors from Castlepoint 'Highway Board re .culverts, over Cabbago Tree Creek on Blai.logie East Coast Road, Resolved that the Engineer lias instructions to proceed with enlargement of cul vert, and that in view of this Board having expended considerably '■ more than L3B 10s, they think they, havo a lair claim of an additional contribution to that already guaranteed, particulars of which will be sent .at a later date.

Resolved that Mr McKenzie bo informed that the members ; of the Board have examined the papars in connection with the judgment of the Resident Magistrate, and have failed to discover any trace of a' promise or understanding that fancinjr should be done by the Board.

An application was received from Mr J. Rowe of Gladstone for a road on the native laud at the baok of Gladstone. 'Resolved that the Engineer undertake the work.as early as possible, - Resolved that the Engineer inspect and report on the works on the Blairlogio and East Coast road early next week. Messrs Vile, Huht. Vnd others waited on the Board, asking that about 16 chains of road on the Miki Miki Valley leading to their properties be formed.—Resolved {hat the engineer inspect and report at next meeting as to what, was required, also on the right of road applied for by Mr Vile. Mr Donovan waited on the Board re his road,—The matter was deferred till 'the Government forwarded its proposals as to scheme of road for his district, Mr Grant waited on the Board for compensation for metal taken off his laud, -It was deoided to leave the matter in ,the hands of the ohairman.

Mr W. Miller waited oil the Board re I the branoh road to his property at Gladstone.—The Board resolved that it could not justiGably-entevtain his application. In referenoe to the application made by Mr Stuckey, it to resolved that Mr Tuok be communicated with and -requested to widen the gates on the boundary fence of-Brandon's clearing at his earliest opportunity. Mr Vallance applied for assistance on the Kaumingi portion of the Masterton-. Castlepoint road, and an extra man waß authorised to be appointed,to effect the necessary repairs. " .' Re the addition to the Masterton High-, way District' from, the Castlepoint District, considerable discussion tooLplace. It was finally resolved, on the motion of Mr Chamberlain, seconded by Mr Yallance, and carried unanimously-That the roads passing, through the properties, which aro the subject of the petition, being principally used by the ratepayers of the CastlejSoint Highway District, this Board strongly objects to.their being included in the Masterton Highway District.

It was also resolved—That a petition embodying the proposed changes in Ward boundaries, as noted on the Board maps, be prepared for presentation toHis Excellency the Governor,? and that notice of etioh charges be duly advertised, It was resolved—That the'lnspeotor of Works be informed that it is probable his services will noybe|equired after the end of the current month.
