CARTERTON VOLUNTEERS.
PRIZE FIRING.
The third competition for the challenge cup of the Carterton Volunteer Me Corps, together with prizes offered by residents, took place at, the Taratahi butts on Saturday, the firing oommenci'ng at 11 a.m., and concluding about 4 p.m., 18 members competition The firing was at ai Wimbledon target, 5 shots each range, 200 yds standing, 400 kneeling, and ,500 and 600 any position. ' The weather was dull and showery, -with a variable breeze blowing. The following were the prizes competed for:—The company's challenge cup and thirty shillings (to winner) ; portfolio,, valued ut £2 2a, presented by Sergt,-Major Campbell; 2 ladies' workboxes, preserved by Bi A. Gardener and Son ; meerschaum pipe and tabacco pouch, presented by Mr Hunter; pair of boots (made to order), X J. Peters, do E. S. Styles, do J... Moriarty (value 25a each); Mr O. Goodiu, clock; Mr A, L, White, 101b cake; Mr G. -Bennett, pair carved brackets; Lieut.' Bennett—prize to be named in ornamental work;
