(united press association.) SUDDEN DEATH. Dunedin, this day. James Kenneth, a carter, died very suddenly at Palmerston yesterday whilst training horses for races. TEA GROWING. Auckland, this day. Experiments in tia culture have been made under the auspices of the Acclimatisation Society and have proved vory successful, an excellent iufusion having been obtained. The plant grows luxuriantly in the ordinary soil of Auckland. NATIVE MEETING DOWN SOUTH. Christchduch, this day. A meeting of the Middle Island Natives was held at Kaiapoi pah yesterday, when Taiaroa, M.H.R., delivered a short address and submitted a report of the Middle Island Native Land Commission. The latter was read and discussed, after which the meeting adjourned for further consideration. RAILWAY ACCIDENT, WELLINGTON. Wellington, this day. The 10 o'clock to train to Upper Hutt ran into a trolly at Petone this morning, resulting in the engino being capsized and getting injared a little. The driver and stoker escaped wiih slight bruises, and the guard received some scratches. No serious injuries; traffic resumed.

Wellington, tl)is day, The following is the report of the Directors of the Colonial Insurance Company for presentation at its fourth annual eeneral meeting of shareholders to lie hpld oij Wednesday, 17th Mayln submitting to shareholders their fourth annual report and statement of accounts for year ending 31st March, 1882, your Directors regret that owing to serious fire and marine losses they are unable to recommend the payment of a dividend. The income from premiums, interest, transfer fees, etc., including balance brought forward last year, is £73,863 Os lid, and expenditure, including 15s Id written off office furniture, is £81,06119s 4d, leaving a deficit of .£7,198 18s sil to meet, which your Directors have written back to reserve fund, £7,600, carrying forward a balance of £3Ol Is 7d to new account. Tho losses for the past year have been exceptionally heavy, owing to tempestuous weather on the coast of Great Britain and elsewhere, and to disastrous fires in firstclass brick buildings in the Australian colonies and New Zealand. FATAL ACCIDENT IN OTAGO.
DuNEmtf, May 10. A fatal incident occurreb at Tuapeka Mouth on Monday, A'son pf Mr' John hughes, aged 12 years, waq pq the top of a dray-load of corn, when thp horse was moved forward and suddenly slipped, which caused tho youth to loose' his balance and fall upon a pitch-fork, the point of which pierced his temple between the ear and eye. The littlo fellow expired three hours after the accident.
