CASTLEPOINT HIGHWAY BOARD

A meeting of the Board was held on Saturday last afc lonui, Present—Messrs Mackay (chairman), LaugdoUj Belliss, Smyth, and Williams, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The treasurer reported balance available for future expenditure £57919s Bd. The report ot the Clerk of Works was read and con idored, The following correspondence was then read .'—From Burgess & Son, asking for an advance on contract; from R, Wilsone, re culvert in Cabbage-Tree Creek; from Chief Surveyor, re road linei from Pakowai; from Young and McGuickeri, ro wages j from Mr Elder, re gate; from P, O'Connor, re metal; from R, Wilsone, re ferrymen's salai-fca j from J. Morrison, re gates; from T. P. Girdwood, re No. 1 contract, metalling; from A. Nicholls, with tender for whare in Mungapakeha; and from G. Gillard, re balance of money due on contract metalling, Resolved-That no tendors having been received for making a stone ford at Mungapakelu crossing, the the Clork of Works be authorised to get it done by day labor; that Messrs Burgess, and Son's application be granted; that in reply to Mr Wilsone's letter re cu vert,this Board considers that another culvert of equalize should be putin with the one in position, and that until this is done he Board will withold the promised subsidy to t..e work; that the Chief Surveyor be informed that the Board will indicate th 3 road line from Knob Trig to ur raylor's by placing temporary pegs, and that the best route for a branch line vim. a ' on £ " ie Tanewha ridge from Knob Trig to join the Castlepoint line at « j" ackspur; that as the County will refund the amount of salary' due to the ferrymen in this district, this Board will advance the necessary money to pay it ; that Mr Morrison be allowed to erect the gates as applied for; that as no reply has been .received from the Council' to the report dent in by the Clerk of Works in respect to the ex< penditure of tho grants for opening up Grown Lands, this Board begs to remind .the .Council thafc no time should be lost in' commencing the work; that MrGird. :wood's application for i-313 15s : for metalling on the Kaumingi-Mangapakeha road be agreed to; that Mr Gillard be paid the amount due,on his contract, less the fine named in the conditions of agreement. if not "completed within a given

time; that Mv Kioholls tender for in Mangapakeha be aocepted; that the Olerk be instructed to inform Mr Burling that his seat in the Board has becomb vacant owing to non-attendance at mist, ings, and that a new "Warden be elected for No 7 Ward ; that the general rate of one shilling in the pound be the rata levied for the ouvrent year on all rateable property within the Oastlepoint Highway District.
